In 1956, this house served as the model home for renowned architect Carl Koch’s planned community, Middle Ridge, tucked in the woods of northwest Lexington. Koch’s innovative Techbuilt designs offered affordable, efficient “pre-fabricated” homes, based on 48” module, with no interior load-bearing walls - a total departure from the New England homes that surrounded it. Other architects followed, and soon thereafter this historic community of modern homes emerged. Turning Mill remains one of the largest concentrations of architect designed mid century modern homes in the Northeast.
